The pigments are dissolved in 90% acetone (chloropigments) or 100% ethanol (most carotenoids, except alpha-carotenes, beta-carotene, dinoxanthin, myxoxanthophyll, lycopene, which are all in 100% acetone, and beta-cryptoxanthin, which is in n -hexane), flushed with 100% N2, and supplied in sealed vials. The pigment standards are delivered on dry ice. If stored frozen (-20° C), the pigments are stable for at least three years. The standards should, however, be used immediately after breaking the seal. The vials are distributed with a certificate with specifications on concentrations,
stability, storage and handling.
The concentration most often ranges between 0.4 and 1.5 mg/liter and the volume is 2.5 ml.

Mixed Pigments
The mixed pigments can be used for quality assurance when controlling the daily separation of the individual pigments analysed by HPLC, the HPLC system performance, and the calibration when analysing sets of samples with different pigment content.
Each vial contains more than 20 different pigments:
chlorophyll c3, chlorophyll c2, pheophorbide a, peridinin, 19’ -butanoyloxyfucoxanthin, fucoxanthin, neoxanthin, prasinoxanthin, violaxanthin, 19’ -hexanoyloxyfucoxanthin, diadinoxanthin, alloxanthin, diatoxanthin, zeaxanthin, lutein, MV& DV chlorophyll b, MV & DV chlorophyll a, pheophytin a, alpha- and beta-carotene.
The pigments are dissolved in 90% acetone and distributed in HPLC vials each containing 1.00 ml and nitrogen atmosphere. The total chlorophyll a concentration (measured by spectrophotometer) is approx. 10 u g/ml.
